One of my proudest accomplishments while attending the University of West Florida (UWF) was my two years as the President of our local chapter of the American Marketing Association. This organization acts as a unifier of marketing professionals across the United States and was instrumental in helping me build many of my first connections within the industry.
As President of the UWF AMA, I took on a variety of projects including building our website. We also managed the U Choose Awards, a student-led marketing research project studying the brand equity of local Pensacola businesses according to the purchasing patterns of UWF students. If you would like to learn more about the study, I highly recommend that you visit this webpage that discusses the three phases of the study; However, that isn’t the focus of today’s blog.
Today, I wanted to highlight one of my favorite projects I took on as President during my last semester at UWF. One of my strongest skills is in Canva, which I developed during my fellowship at BluShark Digital as well as in my own studies for my graphic design minor. I noticed many of my fellow classmates who were not pursuing graphic design minors struggled to make marketing materials for their classes because they were not trained in any graphic design software.
To fix this issue among our members and other curious students across campus, I put together a Canva Lunch and Learn. While many students were drawn in with the promise of a free lunch, many stayed due to the usefulness of the information discussed. By combining some of the fundamental principles of design I learned from my Graphic Design courses with my knowledge of Canva, I was able to teach an entire room of students how to improve their designs.
I am so glad that I filmed the recording because I still send this video to my clients whenever they want to learn how to use Canva but don’t know how to get started. That’s a big reason why I decided to write a blog about it: so that those I guide to my website for this information are more easily able to find it.
I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did making it. From the presentation to helping students in the classroom and video editing it together to post on YouTube, the process of content creation has always been a passion of mine and one I hope to foster even further in the future.
